On December 7th 1941, without warning, Japanese fighter planes attacked U.S. ships moored at Pearl Harbor. On December 8th 1941, the U.S.A. declared war on Japan and this started the beginning of the U.S.A.'s full involvement in World War II. Each year a special postmark has been issued by the U.S. Post Office in memory of the Pearl Harbor attack. The U.S. Post Office usually sets up a station on December 7th each year in a tent on the grounds of the Arizona Memorial Visitor Center overlooking Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial.
